Konjac root is a herbaceous perennial plant called "Amorphophallus Konjac" or normally called Shirataki in Japanese.

European Food Safety Authority concluded that there is a favourable cause and effect relationship between consumption of glucomannan with the reduction of body weight and maintenance of normal blood cholesterol.

When I was young, I never gave a serious thought about eating well.  I didn't care too much about my health.  I ate everything. I didn't care whether the food was laced with chemical or bleached or had zero nutrient, as long as they tasted good, I devoured them all.

As I grew older, I gained a lot of weight.  I encountered many friends who became obese dan had a lot of health issues.  Some are diabetics, some have heart disease and some have fatty liver.

For the past 10 years, I have lost a few friends, passed away due to the combination of obesity, diabetics and heart disease.

The passing of my friends made me realise the importance of health.  It prompted me to eat properly and choose what I eat.

Being overweight, I knew I had the risk of getting diabetes.  I was very scared because I have 2 young daughters who still need my care, love and attention. I can't imagine what would happen to them if I get sick or worst, if I have to leave them early.

Initially I thought eating healthy means eating sad and boring food. I thought I had to eat salad everyday. The thought of eating bland food felt really depressing to me.

However after years of trying out many recipes, I found out that there are a lot of delicious healthy food out there.  We just need to be creative and open minded.

While I ate mostly healthy food, my love for noodles is undisputable. I know very well how unhealthy noodles can be but many times I just couldn't resist it. I would still sneak out and get some hot and spicy noodle soup for supper. When I felt lazy to cook, Indomie goreng was the most luxurious thing to eat. 

This noodle and pasta addiction drove me to research on the possibilities of having healthy noodle. After consulting "uncle google", I found out that healthy noodles and pastas do exist. These healthy noodles and pastas are made from shirataki and had been consumed by the Japanese for more than 1,500 years..!! 

Imagine my joy when I found these konjac / shirataki noodles and pastas. I bought a lot of them from overseas. I cooked it for Mee Goreng, Char Kuey Teow, Pasta Carbonara, and many other dishes. It took me many trials and errors in developing recipes that work well with Konjac Shirataki noodles and pasta.  Since the konjac shirataki noodles are tasteless and don't absorb seasonings well, I found out that I needed to add more flavours and seasonings to the gravies and sauces to coat the noodles.

While the textures are not exactly the same with the normal noodles and pasta, the konjac shirataki noodles and pastas satisfied my addiction and craving of noodles and pastas.  

In fact cooking Char Kuey Teow with this konjac / shirataki noodle is much easier than using normal kuey teow.  The firm texture of konjac / shirataki noodle prevents it from sticking together. I had beautiful strands of kuey teow instead of lumpy soggy kuey teow. 

After a year of having konjac / shirataki noodles and pasta for myself, I decided to bring in the konjac / shirataki noodles and pasta to Malaysia and make them  easily available for Malaysians. This is when Ketomee was born.
